Showerthought: My eco-friendly baking swap turned a cake into a sad pancake
I've been trying to be more mindful about waste, so I decided to use homemade parchment paper from recycled brown bags for my birthday cake. In my experience, it seemed like a smart way to avoid buying new stuff. But when I pulled the cake out, the paper stuck to the bottom like glue and tore the whole thing apart. Your mileage may vary, but for me, it was a total mess that no frosting could fix. Take this with a grain of salt, but now I've got a crumbly disaster and a bunch of wasted ingredients. It's frustrating because I want to bake sustainably, but fails like this make it feel like a step back. Maybe I need to find a better middle ground that doesn't ruin my treats. Has anyone found a reliable way to line pans without all the trash?

Your homemade parchment paper decided it was part of the cake's structural integrity. Sustainable baking is just advanced punishment sometimes.

Guess my cake now has a nice, rustic parchment layer... added some real earthy notes to the vanilla. Turns out structural integrity is just a fancy way of saying "permanently attached." Should have just used the store-bought stuff, but noooo, had to get crafty. Now every slice has a little extra... fiber.

Yeah, the "better middle ground" for me was just buying a reusable silicone mat. Sounds obvious now, but it took a few stuck cakes to get there.
