Found out my bank charges me $3 a month for paper statements I never asked for

I was looking through my checking account fees last night and noticed a $3 recurring charge labeled "paper statement fee." I called my credit union and they said it's been there since 2022, but I've been using online banking the whole time so I never saw the physical mail. Has anyone else caught a small fee like this that just flew under the radar?

Wait, if you never asked for paper statements and you've been fully online, couldn't you argue they added a fee for a service you never agreed to and try to get all those charges reversed going back to 2022?

My credit union pulled the same thing with a $2 fee for a "paperless account maintenance" charge that I never noticed for like 8 months. I called them out on it and they refunded the whole thing after I pushed back a little.

Wait did your friend ever get a straight answer about when that fee first showed up? My buddy Mike had the same thing happen with his bank, they added a "digital convenience fee" without telling him and he only caught it after a year when he actually read his statements. He got the whole thing refunded too but had to call three times and threaten to switch banks before they took him seriously.
