Hot take: That old teller who said 'never trust cash 100%' was onto something

I had this senior teller at my first bank job in Cleveland, Mrs. Pat, who always double-checked every bill under a UV light. She said counting cash by hand alone is how you miss a fake $20. I blew her off as paranoid until last month when my drawer came up $60 short after a busy Friday. Turns out three counterfeit twenties slipped through from a loyal customer. You said "asking for trouble" and I totally see why, but what kind of trouble are we really talking about here? I mean, is it more about getting shortchanged or taking fake bills from someone you thought you could trust? Just trying to figure out if the real risk is losing money or losing a relationship over it.
