Stopped doing manual bank reconciliations after I caught a $1,200 error last quarter

Used to spend every Sunday night matching transactions line by line in a spreadsheet, but after I switched to automated reconciliation software in March, I noticed that the old way was missing duplicate charges from our vendor (like a $47 fee that showed up twice), and now I'm wondering if anyone else feels silly for trusting their own manual checks for so long?

Holy cow, $1,200? That would have made my blood run cold if I caught that after the fact. Man, I've been there too with the Sunday night manual grind, but missing something that big would have haunted me for weeks. It's wild how we convince ourselves we're being careful when really we're just tired and missing the obvious stuff.

Signing my own name to that mistake felt like a really expensive way to learn I needed reading glasses. At least the coffee was hot that night.
