A client told me my fades were 'too safe' and it changed how I work
I had this regular come in a few months back, he's a younger guy who always wants something sharp. He sat down, looked at my clipper work, and said my fades were too safe. He meant I was leaving too much weight at the bottom and not going high enough with the guideline. That hit me hard because I pride myself on clean lines. So I started practicing a higher fade on a mannequin head at home, pushing that guideline up nearly an inch higher than I used to. Now I ask every client if they want a low or high fade before I start cutting. That one comment made me realize I was stuck in a comfort zone and not giving people what they actually wanted. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you rethink your whole technique?

Barber I follow online says the best cuts come from client pushback.

@karen_west59 is onto something, clients noticing small details can really wake you up. I read a blog post where a barber said the best feedback comes from people who actually care about their cut. That one sentence from your regular probably saved you months of doing the same thing over and over.
