A regular at my shop in Tacoma said my clipper work looked rushed

He pointed out that my fades had visible lines and the blend wasn't smooth, saying it felt like I was trying to finish in 15 minutes flat. I realized I'd gotten into a bad habit of rushing through the clipper-over-comb step to save time. For the last two weeks, I've forced myself to slow down and spend an extra five minutes on each fade, really checking the blend from every angle. The difference in the final look is night and day. Has anyone else had to break a speed habit that was hurting quality?

Sounds like @thompson.nathan's topographic map phase, we've all been there.

Yeah that's a solid fix. I've found rushing the clipper work always shows up in the final shape, no matter how good your scissor work is. Taking those extra minutes to check the blend is what separates a good cut from a great one.

Honestly, how many times have I tried to save two minutes on the clippers only to spend twenty trying to fix it with shears? I once left a line so harsh it looked like a topographic map on the back of some guy's head. My blend check is basically just me sighing and going back for the half guard again.
