Picked up a new clipper trick from a shop in Brooklyn last month

I was in Brooklyn visiting a buddy and stopped into this small barbershop off Atlantic Avenue. The guy cutting next to me was using a straight razor on a fade, and I asked him about it. He showed me how he uses the corner of the blade to clean up edges instead of a trimmer. Said it gives a sharper line and doesn't irritate the skin as much. I tried it on a few clients back home and it works way better for avoiding those little bumps. Now I use it on every bald fade I do. Anyone else ever mess around with straight razors on fades instead of clippers?

Wait, did he explain why a blade is better than clippers for you?

Is it really that serious though? I've used a straight razor for lineups before and the difference wasn't night and day compared to a good trimmer.
