Noticed something weird about reels after visiting a local coffee shop

I stopped by this tiny coffee place in Austin last week and the owner was showing me their Instagram. They post like 5 times a day, great shots, good captions, but their reach tanked hard after the algorithm shift. While I was there I watched them post a reel and within 10 minutes it had maybe 12 views. But then another reel they posted 3 hours earlier suddenly jumped to 800 views out of nowhere. The pattern was wild. The successful one had a looped first frame, no text overlay, and the audio was a trending sound from 2 weeks ago. The flops all started with a jump cut and had captions covering the bottom third. I tested this theory on my own account for the last 4 days and my reels with a clean first frame and no text are getting 3x the reach. Has anyone else noticed timing of when these boosts kick in or is it just random for you too?
