The SpongeBob Museum meme was real and I saw it in person
I went to the SpongeBob pop-up exhibit in Chicago last month and there was this one interactive wall where you could press a button to make Patrick say 'The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma.' People were filming it over and over. The line for that single button stretched 20 minutes because everyone wanted a clip for TikTok. Has anyone else visited a viral spot like that and realized the hype totally made sense?

Oh man, that button thing is actually a different exhibit detail though... The original viral SpongeBob Museum meme was that giant realistic Patrick statue with the dead eyes people were taking selfies with. I remember it blew up because someone photoshopped him into that "waiting for the bus" meme and it got shared everywhere. The button wall sounds cool but it's a different gimmick that came later when they realized people wanted interactive stuff. I think they added it specifically because the line for the Patrick photo op was even worse than 20 minutes when it first opened.

The timing on that Patrick statue was just brutal when it first opened. I waited almost 45 minutes the first weekend because everyone had to get their "dead-eyed starfish" photo for Instagram. By the time I finally got up there, the lighting was all wrong and my shot came out looking like a mugshot. If you go now, aim for a weekday right when they open - that 20 minute wait for the button wall actually moves faster than you'd think because people tend to tap a few buttons and move on. The Patrick line still backs up, but the workers have gotten good at keeping it to about 10 minutes during off-peak hours.
