Used to use Park Tool grease for everything until a shop vet changed my mind about lubrication
I used Park Tool poly grease on every bike that came through my stand for years. Seemed like the safe bet, right? Then an old mechanic from a shop in Denver told me I was making things harder on myself with suspension pivots and freehub bodies. He showed me how a lighter marine grease like Phil Wood works way better in those spots because it doesn't gum up as fast. Switched about 6 months ago and haven't had any sticky freehub issues since. Anyone else have a specific grease they swear by for certain parts?
Man, tell me about it. I actually had an old Phil Wood hub that sat in a box for like three years because I couldn't bring myself to toss it. Finally dug it out last month and it spun smooth as ever after just wiping it down. Still can't get over how quiet they are compared to other hubs. Really makes you wonder why every company doesn't just copy that design.
