Just realized my whole show-watching style changed after a trip to my friend's cabin in Michigan

We were stuck there for a weekend with a bad storm and the internet went out. All we had was this old box set of a show called 'The Wire' that my friend's dad left there. We started it just to pass the time and ended up watching the whole first season in one go, talking about each episode after. Now I can't stand watching just one episode of a good show at a time, I have to save them up and do a whole story arc. Does anyone else find they need to watch shows in big chunks now, or is it just me?

That's exactly how The Wire gets you.

Maybe it's just me, but the show always felt more about the systems than the characters. The cops, the dealers, the schools, they're all stuck in the same machine. You watch because you want to see if anyone can actually beat the game, not because you get tricked into liking someone. That cold realism is what hooks you.

Beat the game" makes it sound like there's a high score screen at the end. It's just a bunch of people making bad choices in Baltimore. Thomas.parker is right that's how it gets you, but sometimes I think we all just like feeling smart for watching a sad show about paperwork. The realism isn't that cold when you're eating chips on your couch.
