My coal forge grate collapsed mid-heat, lost a week of work
Last Tuesday I was heating up a 2 inch square bar for a gate repair and the cast iron grate just gave way, dumping the whole fire onto my shop floor. I spent the next 3 days rebuilding it with 3/8 steel bars I had lying around, but the angle and spacing are different now. Has anyone else had a forge fire pan fail suddenly, and did you just weld a new grate or switch to a different fire setup entirely?

Hell yeah, weld it and move on. Steel bars beat cast junk any day.
