The $60 foam insert I regret, and why sleeves exist

I spent $60 on a custom foam tray for my Arkham Horror LCG collection. It looked great in the photos, fit the box perfectly, and made setup faster for about three sessions. Then I realized it only holds cards with sleeves if I use the thin penny ones, and I prefer the thicker premium sleeves. Now the insert is too tight, cards bend at the corners, and I had to pull everything out just to play. Sleeves are the real investment, not the organizer. Has anyone else sunk money into storage that became useless after switching brands of sleeves?

Every storage system is just a temporary opinion until you change sleeves, I guess. Sixty bucks for a tray that only fits one specific brand of thin plastic is like buying a car that only runs on one type of gas. My buddy did the same thing with his Marvel Champions box, had to dent the foam with a screwdriver to make room. Now he just keeps everything in a zip bag and calls it a day. The real lesson is that the game itself is cheaper than the stuff you buy to hold it. Hopefully that tray at least makes a decent doorstop.
