5 years welding in the same shop. Saw a huge jump in weld quality after I ditched the auto-darkening hood for a fixed shade.

Used a Jackson auto-darkening for 8 years. Always had those tiny little arc strikes on the edges. Switched to a fixed shade #10 gold lens. First week was rough. After that? My beads look cleaner. Less flash, less eye strain. Anyone else make the switch and notice a difference?

Tried fixed shade #10 after 15 years with auto-dark and never looked back.

Are you really burning through that many welds where a tiny arc strike matters that much? Most guys I know run auto-dark hoods and turn out solid work every day without thinking twice about it. Feels like a personal preference thing more than a real game changer.
