Hot take: I spent $800 on a new digital ultrasonic thickness gauge and it's been a waste.
Everyone says you need one, but for 90% of my field checks, my old pit gauge and calipers are faster and just as accurate. Am I the only one who thinks this tech is overkill for routine vessel inspections?

Honestly, "faster and just as accurate" really hits home. I used to push for the latest gear on every job, but your post makes a solid point about sticking with what works. Sometimes the simple tools are the right ones.

Right, "sticking with what works" is so true, @grayc27. I wasted a lot of time last year switching to a fancy new app that just slowed me down. Now I'm back to my old setup and getting twice as much done.

Tell me about it. Felt the same way with a new laser level last month. Just collects dust now.
