Our book club's pick split us right down the middle last Tuesday

We read a literary novel with no plot, just vibes, and half the group loved it while the other half wanted to burn it. I was in the 'loved it' camp, but one member stormed out after someone called it pretentious. Has anyone else had a pick cause that kind of heat, or was our group just extra spicy?

Someone STORMED OUT?" That's wild. I mean, we've had heated debates over endings before, but nobody's ever actually left. Was it over the word 'pretentious' or something else, cause that feels like a LOT for one word.
