Our club picked a 700 page book and half of us quit by chapter 4
Last Tuesday at the coffee shop on Vine Street, our book club met to talk about the 700 page novel we voted on back in August, and only 5 of the 11 people showed up. The whole argument started because Dana picked it based on a TikTok, and now she keeps calling anyone who stopped reading a quitter. I tried to say maybe we should split long books into chunks, and Mike said no way, we already voted. So now we sit there every week guessing what happened in the pages nobody read, and the talk about the book lasts maybe 6 minutes before we just catch up on life stuff. Is there a fair way to pick books so the club doesn't fall apart every time someone brings a brick of a novel?
A friend of mine had the same mess with her club, so they started rotating who picks and capped picks at 300 pages unless everyone agrees. Now they actually finish books and nobody has to fake it through the last 500 pages.
