Shoutout to the guy who brought a 3-page character analysis to our beach book club
Honestly, this happened at our July meetup at Brighton Beach. We were supposed to be casually discussing a summer romance novel, but this one dude, Mark, pulled out printed sheets. He spent 15 minutes arguing that the love interest's boat, named 'The Wanderer', was a metaphor for his 'unresolved daddy issues'. Tbh, we were all in swimsuits eating chips, and he's talking about 'literary maritime symbolism'. Someone's kid started building a sandcastle on his notes. He just kept going, completely serious. Has anyone else had a member totally misread the vibe of a meeting location?

Honestly, that sounds like the exact kind of deep dive I'd enjoy at a book club, beach or not.

Lol my friend had a guy show up to their park picnic with a full powerpoint about barbecue sauce brands. Some people just don't get the setting at all, it's like they forget where they are. The vibe was totally gone after that.
