Vent: My book club spent $45 on 'discussion kits' for a novel nobody liked

We bought them before reading 'The Overstory' and then the whole group basically hated the book, so the fancy questions felt like a total waste. Anyone else ever buy a guide or extra material for a club pick that completely missed the mark?
