A guy at the Seattle bindery supply shop warned me about that cheap PVA glue.
He told me it dries brittle in six months and showed me a book he had to rebind that fell apart because the previous guy used the dollar store stuff, has anyone else seen that happen?

Saw it happen to a guy's rebind of a old cookbook last year. The spine cracked right down the middle after three months and the pages started sliding out in little chunks. He tried to patch it with more PVA but it just made a crusty mess. Cheap glue really is a trap for sure.

@alexc93 did he try heating the glue before applying?

I read somewhere that warm glue bonds better but can weaken again if it gets too hot later.
