Took me 8 years to figure out I was gluing my book cloth wrong

Always used PVA for everything. Then at a workshop last spring, another binder said to try wheat paste for cloth instead. The difference in how flat the covers lay is night and day. No more bubbling or peeling at the edges. Has anyone else had a better experience with paste over PVA for certain materials?

Well isn't that just the way it goes. I spent a good three years using the wrong kind of glue for my paper projects because I didn't know the difference between acid-free and regular stuff. Everything turned yellow and brittle by the time I figured it out. At least you caught it before your whole bookshelf started falling apart.

Oh man, that clicks with so much stuff! It's like when you learn something new and suddenly realize you've been making things way harder for yourself. I had the same thing with sewing - used the same needle for everything for years until someone told me ballpoint for knits and sharp for wovens. Life changing, right? It's funny how we get stuck in a routine and just assume that's how it's done. Then one little tip opens up a whole new world of results. Makes you wonder what else we're all doing the hard way without even knowing it.

And you gotta wonder how many of those little secrets are just sitting there, waiting for someone to mention them. Like with the glue thing you mentioned, how long until you found out about pH neutral adhesives for important stuff? Took me forever to learn about using a paper backing when ironing patches onto fabric so you don't melt the adhesive onto your iron. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about five years sooner?
