TIL my local nursery guy said my snake plant was getting too much light, and I feel like a fool
I had it sitting in a south facing window for like 8 months wondering why the leaves kept going soft. He said to move it about 6 feet back and water only when the soil is dry down to my knuckle, and it's already pushing out a new leaf after 3 weeks. Has anyone else had a plant they were basically cooking without knowing it?
A south window with 8 months of direct sun is actually fine for a snake plant in most homes. Those things grow in Nigeria in full blazing sun, so calling it "cooking" seems like a stretch. Your new leaf after 3 weeks probably has more to do with the watering change than the light, since soft leaves are usually the first sign of root rot from too much water, not too much sun. Six feet back from a south window is pretty far, and you might end up with a slow growing plant that barely puts out anything. The nursery guy sells plants, so telling you your setup is wrong is a pretty easy way to make you second guess yourself.
