That grocery chain apology video made me cringe harder than the recall
A local chain here in Portland posted a 90 second video apology for a salmonella outbreak, but the CEO smiled the whole time and it looked like a hostage tape. They pulled it after 4 hours and put out a text statement instead, which honestly made it worse. Has anyone else seen a brand make a bad situation weirder by over-rehearsing the apology?

Honestly though, the smile thing might not have been the CEO being fake. Sometimes people smile when they’re super nervous or uncomfortable, it’s a real stress reaction. It still looks terrible on camera, don’t get me wrong, but it might not have been rehearsed at all. The bigger problem is they probably shot that video in one take and didn’t watch it back before posting. Pulling it after 4 hours just made everyone screenshot it and turn it into a meme, which is way worse than just owning the mistake. They should’ve just stuck with the text apology from the start and skipped the whole video mess.
