TIL Peloton's PR team actually sent a cease and desist to a customer who made a funny parody video about the bike
I stumbled on this in a Forbes article from last year and couldn't believe they'd waste legal fees going after one person when the whole internet was already roasting them for that disastrous holiday ad.

And it's just another example of companies forgetting they're dealing with actual people instead of potential lawsuits waiting to happen.

And @thomas.parker's story is a good example but I actually think it cuts both ways, you know? Like yeah sending a legal threat over a dumb TikTok is overkill and terrible PR, but I've also seen creators post straight up lies about a product that could hurt peoples' health or safety and the company has to protect itself. Companies are full of real people too, and sometimes those people just make bad calls on how to handle stuff.

Heard a story from my buddy @nguyen.tara where his neighbor got a ridiculous legal threat over a dumb TikTok video and it cost the company way more in bad press than a simple "hey can you take that down" ever would. These companies need to learn PR 101 before wasting money on lawyers.
