Figured out I've been booking hotels wrong for years

I was in Portland last month and stumbled into this tiny guesthouse because my usual hostel was full... the owner mentioned he prices rooms lower if you book direct through their website instead of the big booking sites. It hit me that I've been paying 15% extra for years just to use a platform I didn't need. Has anyone else had a moment where you realized a basic travel habit was costing you money the whole time?

oh great, another life hack I'll remember for exactly one trip and then forget completely. I'm still mad about all those years I spent paying full price for rental cars instead of checking the discount codes on a random blog. maybe it's just me but I feel like travel is just a series of small financial regrets.

Bro exactly lol are you really losing sleep over rental car coupons from 2014? It's like fifteen bucks, not a mortgage payment.
