My $9 hostel in Lisbon had no lock on the door, so I slept with my backpack as a pillow

Booked a cheap hostel in Lisbon last month for 9 bucks a night and the room door had no lock at all, just a hole where the handle used to be. I ended up sleeping with my backpack strapped to my chest and my passport in my sock for three nights straight. On night two some guy walked in at 3am thinking it was his room and we both just stared at each other in the dark. I moved to a 22 dollar place near the train station after that and honestly it was worth every extra cent. Has anyone else gambled on a super cheap place and had it go sideways like that?
