Was never convinced by habit trackers until my third year of journaling

For almost two years I thought habit trackers were just decorative filler that took up space in my bullet journal. But after I started tracking how many days I actually watered my houseplants, I realized I was forgetting almost half the time. Has anyone else had a bullet journal feature they dismissed early on that later became essential?

Do you ever feel like you have to fail at something first before you actually get why it matters? I was the same way with mood tracking, thought it was pointless fluff until I noticed a pattern of bad weeks every time I skipped breakfast. That little checkbox ended up showing me stuff about my own habits I never would have caught otherwise.

Most people need to bump into a wall before they actually look at where they're walking. It's just how we're wired.

Huh, I get what you're saying about needing to bump into a wall (and that breakfast thing is a good example), but I see it a little differently. For me, the wall was already there, I just didn't want to admit I was the one walking into it on purpose. I tracked my sleep for months and saw the data screaming at me that late-night coffee was ruining my rest, but I kept drinking it anyway until I finally got sick of feeling wrecked every morning. I guess some of us just need to get tired of our own excuses before the pattern actually sticks, not just bump into a wall once.
