My niece told me I was saying 'the ick' wrong at Thanksgiving and I'm still not over it
So I'm at my sister's place in Toledo for Thanksgiving and my niece says something has "the ick," and I go "yeah that gives me the ick too" about the dry turkey. She just stares at me and goes, "Uncle Avery, you can't say it like that, it's only for people you're dating." I tried to argue that a word is a word, but then her friend pulled up three TikToks to prove me wrong, and honestly they had a point. Now I'm second guessing every bit of slang I pick up from these kids, because apparently I've been using "ick" like a boomer for a whole year. Where do you all draw the line on slang that's only allowed in one specific context?
