Do you edge-band before or after assembly? Had a client call me out on it

I had a guy last week ask why I edge-band after glue-up, and he insisted it's better to do it before so you don't have to trim around the joints. I've always done it after because it hides the seams better, but now I'm second guessing. Which way do you all run it, especially on melamine or ply with a lot of cabinets?

After keeps seams tight, before looks cleaner but shows joints later.
