TIL a neighbor's trick for keeping drawers from sticking in humid weather
My next-door neighbor saw me sanding down a drawer that was jammed and told me about waxing the slides. He said to use a plain candle and rub it on the wooden runners when the weather gets damp. I tried it on a few dressers I was fixing, and now they open smooth as butter. It's a small thing, but it saved me from having to rework the fit.

But doesn't wax just gunk everything up over time? I've always just used a dry bar of soap on the wood runners, the plain kind. It works the same way but doesn't collect dust and dirt like wax does, so you aren't dealing with a bigger mess later. Why add a problem you'll have to clean up?

Ivory soap bars scored lightly never get gummy like wax does.

Wax doesn't seem to gunk up that much in my use. It slides smoother than soap, so there's a trade-off. The extra cleanup might not be as bad as people say.
