That old timer's trick with a fish tape still beats the new fiber rods

I heard a 35-year veteran tell a rookie to heat the fish tape with a lighter on cold runs, tried it on a 2-story house in Buffalo this morning, and it bent around a stubborn corner like butter, anyone else still using heat on their tape?

Reminds me of thawing frozen pipes with a blowtorch, sketchy but it works.
