A guy at a flea market in Austin told me to always replace the whole shutter assembly, not just the blades. I think he's wrong.

Heard it was some crazy expensive Leica.

@the_adam did they give any hints about the model? Leica has a few lines that get into truly silly money, but some of their simpler ones are just regular expensive. The real question is whether it was a digital M or one of those limited edition things that costs as much as a car.
