Remember those old canvas pup tents from the 90s? My son's new two-person backpacking tent weighs 3 pounds.

Set them both up in the yard. The difference in pack size and setup time was crazy. Anyone still using that old heavy gear, or is it all modern fabrics now?

But you know what, that old canvas tent is probably still dry as a bone. My buddy's fancy lightweight tent got a tiny tear and was a swamp inside after one storm. Sometimes heavy just means it works, right? All that new stuff feels a bit flimsy when the weather turns bad. Maybe there's a reason that old gear lasted thirty years.

My friend's old canvas tent from a garage sale saved his trip last fall. His new tent pole snapped in high wind, but that heavy green monster he brought as a joke didn't even shake. He said it was like sleeping in a damp brick shed, but a dry one.
