The $8 tarp from a gas station in Moab beat my $90 one on a 3 night trip

Went camping near Moab last month and forgot my fancy tarp at home. Grabbed a cheap blue one at a gas station for 8 bucks just to have something. Used it as a ground cover under my tent for 3 nights of rain and rocks. It came home without a single tear while my 90 dollar one has holes from one trip. What cheap gear has actually out lasted your expensive stuff?
