Coworker got dragged online for a joke he made in 2016, and now I am second guessing everything I ever posted
Last week a guy I sit next to at work got his old tweets dug up and shared around, and by Friday he was pulled off our project over a joke he made when he was 22. Half the office says he deserved it because words have consequences and the company has an image to protect, but the other half says digging up stuff from almost a decade ago is just a hit job and nobody would survive that kind of search. Where do you all draw the line between old posts that should actually get someone canceled and stuff that is just people being dumb years ago?
Words have consequences" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. What were the actual words though? Because there is a huge gap between a dumb joke that aged badly and something actually hateful. If the company pulled him without even looking at the context, that tells you more about the company than about him.
