Got ratio'd by a cancel mob for joking about a celeb's tan, now I read threads 3 times before posting. It was last Thursday on a pop star's apology video, I made a dumb joke about her spray tan looking like a traffic cone, and suddenly 2,000 people piled on saying I was defending her old racist tweets. My phone actually blew up for 4 straight hours and I almost deleted my whole profile over it. The funny part is I never even mentioned the tweets, I just thought the tan was goofy. Now I screenshot any hot take and run it past my buddy before I hit send, even on boring drama. Anyone else get nuked over a joke that had zero to do with the real issue?

The "traffic cone" line got me, I'll admit I laughed. But years ago I would've been on the other side of this, screaming at people like you without even reading the whole thread. Getting dogpiled over something that had nothing to do with the actual drama really changes how you see things, especially when your phone won't stop vibrating for hours. Now I actually go back and check what someone's full post history looks like before I even type a reply, because I know how fast context gets shredded.
