I finally figured out why my whole take on the Shane Dawson apology was wrong, and it took 3 rewrites to get there
So last Thursday I sat down to write a comment on here about the Shane Dawson thing and I got into a fight with my own draft for like two hours. My first take was that the apology was fake and everyone forgiving him was being played, real simple, done in ten minutes. But then I tried to actually find the clips I was remembering and half of them were from 2018 or earlier and a couple I could not even track down, just other people talking about them. I spent 40 minutes on YouTube going down a rabbit hole and came out the other side way less sure of myself. What finally got me was reading a thread from a small creator in Fresno who said the apology was not for us, it was for the people he actually hurt, and we do not get to grade it like homework. I still think he should not be handed a big platform back without real proof he changed, but I was being lazy calling it all fake. It took 3 rewrites and a whole evening to land somewhere I could defend. Has anyone else changed their call on a cancellation after actually digging into the receipts instead of just going off vibes?
