My local coffee shop owner got canceled and I didn't see it coming

I've been going to Brew & Bean for 3 years straight, almost every morning. The owner seemed super nice, helped me through a rough breakup once. Then last week someone posted a video from 2019 of her saying something pretty racist at a city council meeting. I honestly felt sick because I never picked up on any of that vibe from her. The shop shut down within 48 hours after the video went viral. Now I'm wondering how many other people I trust have stuff hidden away - has anyone else had a local favorite person they thought was good get exposed?

Honestly, "helped me through a rough breakup" is just code for "I'm about to find out she's running a secret hate group on the side." Tbh, it's like dating someone for three years and then finding out they're a serial litterer - the betrayal is real, but the evidence was probably there the whole time. I mean, you think you know a person and then boom, they're out here hosting racist TED talks at city hall. Now I'm side-eyeing my mailman and my neighbors like they might drop a quote from 2012 any second. Ngl, people are just ticking time bombs of old bad takes, and apparently nobody's allowed to change or keep their mouth shut.
