My boss in Phoenix told me to 'just network more' for a promotion, but that's not the real problem.
People focus on meeting new contacts instead of proving value to the three people who actually decide their next move. How do you show your current team you're ready for more without seeming pushy?

I used to chase after new connections at every event. Now I focus on asking my manager for one extra piece of a high-visibility project each quarter. It shows I can handle more without needing a big title change first. What's a small win you could own on your current team?

Yeah, I started asking for feedback after finishing a task, like "how could this have been better for the team?" It shows you care about improving, not just moving up. Managers notice that stuff way more than another coffee chat.

Honestly I've seen that backfire a lot. Constantly asking for feedback after every task can make you look unsure of yourself. It puts extra work on your manager to keep thinking of ways you could have done better. I mean, sometimes a task is just done and good enough. If you overdo it, it starts to feel like you're fishing for praise instead of actually trying to improve. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've watched people get labeled as high maintenance for that exact move.
