Question about the 60% stat my career counselor in Dallas showed me on ghost jobs, is this for real?

Man, that 60% number gets thrown around everywhere and it drives me nuts. I've seen it traced back to a few blog posts that never show their work, and then it just snowballed into "fact." The real studies out there put the ghost job rate way lower, more like 20 to 30 percent depending on the field. Your counselor probably got it from some career site that wanted a scary headline so you'd buy their resume service. Ask them for the actual source next time and watch what happens.
