That stat about 85% of jobs being filled through networking blew my mind

I read it on a LinkedIn article from a recruiter last Tuesday, and now I'm rethinking my whole approach. I've been applying cold online for like 6 months with no callbacks, so maybe I need to start bugging my old coworkers for coffee instead. Anyone else find that number hard to believe?

Man that number tracks with what happened to my buddy Mark. He spent almost a year applying cold to every tech company in the city and got zero interviews. Then his old college roommate hooked him up with a casual lunch at a deli near his office. By the end of that sandwich, the roommate had already forwarded his resume to HR and told the hiring manager to expect it. Mark had the job offer two weeks later without ever formally applying. He told me the hiring manager straight up said they get hundreds of cold apps a day and barely look at them. So yeah, that 85% stat feels about right based on how it played out for him.

Ngl @rileyp49, that deli sounds more effective than half the career coaches out there.
