Three years in, I finally asked for a raise and got a hard no
Started at a marketing firm in Austin back in 2022 making 48k. I kept taking on more work, like running the whole social calendar plus client reports, but never asked for more money. Last month I finally sat down with my manager and asked for 55k, which felt fair since I was doing two jobs. She said the budget was frozen and suggested I wait six months, but I found out the week after that a new hire got 52k for a lesser role. That stung, honestly. I'm keeping my head down and job hunting now, but has anyone else hit this wall where loyalty just doesn't pay? What'd you do when your ask got shut down flat?
