A retired guy at my Tuesday job meetup in Dayton told me to stop applying online and call people instead
I went to a small career meetup at a library in Dayton last Tuesday, mostly to get out of the house, and ended up sitting next to a retired plant manager named Ray. He asked how many applications I had sent out that week, I said 40, and he just shook his head and said "nobody hires a number, they hire a face" before handing me his old contact list from 2019. Has anyone else had luck calling a hiring manager directly instead of waiting on an online portal?
My uncle had this whole thing where he'd show up at places with a resume and a box of donuts, and he swore it worked every time. Honestly though the last time he did it the guy just told him to apply online like everyone else. Ray sounds like he's from a different time, but hey, a contact list is a contact list.
