Unpopular opinion: microdermabrasion is overrated for most skin types

Three years ago I stopped offering microdermabrasion at my studio in Portland after seeing better results with gentle chemical peels on 80% of my clients, has anyone else ditched a popular service for something that actually works better?

Old guy at a tool sharpening shop taught me more in 5 minutes than 2 years of YouTube

There's this old retired machinist named Frank who runs a little blade sharpening shop out of his garage on Route 22 near Newark. I brought in a beat-up end mill last Tuesday, and he spent maybe 10 minutes showing me how proper feed rates prevent chatter just by looking at the wear pattern. Has anyone else found one of those local old timers who actually knows their stuff better than any forum?

Still think the OEM board is always better? My last Whirlpool call changed my mind

Had a whirlpool duet dryer that kept throwing a F30 code last tuesday. Usually I swap in the genuine control board, costs like $180 from the supplier in phoenix. But I tried a $45 refurbished board from a place in tucson and its been running smooth for 6 days now. How many of you actually trust the cheap replacements long term?

TIL I was tamping my espresso totally wrong for 3 years

I used to just press down hard and call it good. Then last month a barista at a shop in Portland watched me do it and said I was compacting the grounds uneven. She showed me to keep my wrist straight and use the same pressure every time. Now my shots don't channel and taste way smoother. Has anyone else had a basic technique they realized they were messing up for years?

Couldn't figure out why my CSS grid kept breaking until I stumbled on this one line

Spent 3 hours last night fighting with a layout that refused to stack right on mobile. Turns out I just needed minmax(0, 1fr) instead of 1fr alone to stop the grid from overflowing. Anyone else run into this invisible wall nonsense?

That alternate ending for 'The Village' on the Blu-ray completely changes the whole movie

I saw it in the extras last night and it shows the creatures were actually real in the end, not just costumes, which makes every character's fear actually justified, has anyone else found a deleted scene that totally flips the original story on its head?

I was scrolling through Twitter in 2020 when some big actor posted 'I could care less' instead of 'couldn't care less' and it blew up because fans roasted them for three days straight... It made me check every single thing I type online now before hitting send. Anyone else still paranoid about their own social media errors because of that one viral fail?

Tried a plunge router bit with a bearing guide and got tearout city

I picked up a cheap Whiteside pattern bit last week for a cabinet door job in Boise and figured the bearing would keep everything clean. Nope, the thing chattered like crazy on the end grain and left these ugly burn marks I had to sand out for an hour. Anyone else have luck with spiral bits for pattern work or is it just my technique?

Stumbled into a tiny Thai spot in Brooklyn that cracked the code on TikTok virality

They were doing these live noodle-pulling demos right at the counter, and almost everyone filming their order ended up posting it. I asked the owner about it and he said they got 300k views on one video just from letting people watch the stretch. Has anyone else noticed restaurants building their whole marketing around one visible gimmick?

Shoutout to the shop in Portland that showed me how to true a wheel in 8 minutes flat

Was at a shop in Portland last winter helping a buddy with a wheel build. The head mechanic walked over, saw me struggling with tension, and grabbed the spoke wrench out of my hand. He showed me this trick where you sight down the rim from the hub instead of the tire side. Took me from 25 minutes per wheel to about 8 once I got the hang of it. Anyone else picked up a weird shortcut from watching a pro work?
