I just caught a major framing error because I switched to checking with a laser level first

For years I'd trust my 4-foot level and string lines, but last week in a Denver remodel the laser showed a 3/4 inch dip across 12 feet that I would have missed. Anyone else have a simple check that saved a big headache?

Wait, three quarters of an inch over just twelve feet? That's wild. I mean, I knew lasers were more accurate, but that's a huge difference to miss. I'd have been so mad if I'd finished and then saw that dip. Makes me wonder what else my old level has been lying to me about. Maybe it's time I finally buy one of those laser things too.

My old Stanley level has been dead on for twenty years in Chicago. I still double-check long runs with a string line, lasers can get bumped out of true.

That's how we end up trusting tools more than our own eyes.
