That electrician who watched me measure twice, then cut once

Last spring on a remodel in Tacoma, this old electrician stood behind me while I marked a door jamb, and he said, 'you're measuring the gap, not the door.' He was right, I was off by a full 3/8 inch and would have shimmed it crooked. Anyone else had a trade call out something so obvious you wanted to hide your tape?
