Found out my 'friend' was lying about his college degree for 3 years

Was scrolling Facebook yesterday and saw a dude I used to work with tagged in a graduation photo. His college. Not the one he claimed. He always bragged about going to State U for engineering. Turns out he took a few classes at a community college and dropped out. The screenshot of his own post from 2021 literally said 'graduating from State U next spring.' Caught him red handed. Anyone else ever catch someone faking their whole background like that?

I mean, "caught him red handed" feels a little harsh... people lie about all sorts of stuff for dumb reasons.

I know a guy who lied about being at a concert when he was actually just at home playing video games. His girlfriend found the ticket stub in his jacket and he spun this whole story about buying it for a friend. It's not like he cheated on her or stole money, he just didn't want to admit he wanted a night alone. Sometimes I wonder if we make lying into this huge moral thing when half the time it's just someone being lazy or embarrassed.

Hang on, let me grab my tiny violin for the guy who got caught lying. "Dumb reasons" is exactly why it's funny though. People don't lie because they're master planners, they lie because they forgot to take out the trash and now their spouse is standing there holding the bag.
