Update: A movie star's Instagram apology video got 200k likes, then she quietly deleted it 3 weeks later
Back in March I started saving screenshots of celebrity apology posts just out of curiosity, and one stood out. This actress posted a shaky 4 minute video crying about a joke she made at an awards show in Los Angeles, and it pulled something like 200,000 likes in two days. I kept the screenshot. Fast forward to last week, I went back to show my wife and the whole post was gone, no warning, no follow up. Here is what I think happened. Her team watched the numbers and saw that the video was getting more angry comments than supportive ones, so the crying video was actually making things worse. Deleting it just proved the apology was never real, it was a PR move with a shelf life. You cannot post a big emotional video and then act like it never happened when the story dies down. People screenshot everything now. Did anyone else catch a celebrity deleting an apology post months after the fact? I want to know if this is a pattern or if I am just noticing it now.
Ha, I've done the same thing but with my own texts, deleted a few "sorry" messages once the heat died down and hoped nobody remembered. Bold move for a celeb when the whole internet is basically a screenshot machine. Yeah, this is a pattern, they scrub the post so new fans never see it and the old drama just fades out.
