Finally ditched my mandoline for a Nakiri knife

I used to reach for my mandoline every time I needed even slices for a mirepoix or potato gratin. Then about 6 months ago I sliced the tip of my thumb off on that thing in about 2 seconds flat. Switched to a Nakiri knife I picked up at a garage sale for 8 bucks and now I prep way faster with way less cleanup. Has anyone else traded a gadget for a simple blade and never looked back?

Did that mandoline get you too? I have a scar on my index finger from one, still can't look at those things without feeling stupid about it. Swapped my garlic press for a big chef's knife and never looked back, way less stuff to wash.

Oh man, the garlic press is honestly the real villain here since it's impossible to clean without getting stabbed by its own little teeth lol.

Snapped a garlic press handle right off once, did you ever have that happen? Seriously feels like those things are designed to trap food and fingers. Really makes you wonder who keeps buying them.
