Old timer in Scranton made me rethink wire brushes for flue tile

Was on a job last Tuesday, this 70 year old guy who's been sweeping since the 70s walks up and watches me for a minute. He says I'm going at the tile too hard with a steel brush. Said he switched to a poly brush years ago and his callbacks dropped way down. I always figured steel was better for heavy creosote but he explained how it can glaze the tile over time if you're not careful. Been trying it on my last few jobs and honestly the results are the same or better. Anyone else made that switch or is it all just personal preference?
